Great show, with Jimmy's guitar overpowering the rest of the group. Robert is somewhere in the background singing, but this is all not too distracting.

What a wonderful tape and show this is ! This is very much atmosphere and playing wise comparable to the RAH show. A very good audience tape is used with some parts spliced with an inferior sounding board tape. This tape is presented on the third disc of this set.

Plant is in great voice and the rest of the band is in equally good shape. The first two songs are beautifully executed for a very warm and responsive audience. Bonham gets really into the end of 'I Can't Quit You'. There's a very nice photobook floating around with many pictures from this show. On one of them a young man is actually praying on stage ! Must have been quite an experience this show.

'Dazed & Confused' is no letdown and the audience is getting crazy during the bow part. They also help Robert during his interaction with Jimmy's sounds. The fast part enters really heavy and Jimmy starts flying on the beat provided by the rhythm section. He can go everywhere he likes. Robert throws in some add libs during the slow section.

'Heartbreaker' starts with that typical 1970 intro. Robert gets very funny with his introduction to this song, by the way. Jimmy's solo part (again) impresses the audience big time. He starts almost direct into the 'country' fiddling. Even the heavy parts after this sound very clean.

'White Summer' starts a bit out of tune, but recovers very well. Again this reminds me a lot to the RAH. The switch to the board tape is quite a shock, luckily it's not that long. The next song is still in an experimental phase and is played in a higher tempo than usual. Jonesy is very good on the organ with those typical swirling 70's notes.

He can stay behind the organ for the introduction to/and the next song, 'Thank You'. Plant really gets into the song here, with beautiful phrasing. One of the best versions ever with equally good solo from Page. It seems that Jones wants to continue his solo at the end of the song.

'What Is And What Should Never Be' is relaxed and peaceful. 'Moby Dick' follows in (again) RAH mood. 'How Many More Times' is the last song before the encore. Everybody gets a thunderous roar of approval during the band introduction.

You can almost sense that this is gonna be a very good version of their showpiece. Page plays unusual fills before the 'ring' part which has Robert almost in yodeling mood. After this Page builds up the tension masterfully. The tape switches to a different sounding alternate one than used on disc one. Good that this is available but the atmosphere is almost gone. The medley is outstanding. Robert performs the 'gun' shout better than on the official DVD.

'Whole Lotta Love' starts very suddenly and has a strange sounding theramin bit, almost if it's about to break down. After this the tape is cut and the show over.

This is a very good sounding tape. There seems to be a quick soundcheck, a small cut and then 'Immigrant Song'. Plant is sounding great again (as usual on this tour). The sound is in good balance, there's no overpowering from anybody, only Robert takes the spotlight a bit more. The echo sounds great on his voice.

The solo spot from Jimmy in 'Heartbreaker' is well played and approved of greatly by the audience. Great atmosphere during the concert with much clapping and remarks made by the audience.

'Dazed & Confused' is next and is brilliantly performed. After a bit of silence from the audience the bow solo is the signal to get noisy (positivily) again. Jimmy almost makes the strings speak during this. Robert gets in very quickly with the 'tune it' part. Bonzo does a nice workout on the cymbals during the 'Mars' part.

After Robert' 'Rock and Roll is here to stay' part Jimmy plays some unexpected funky parts and then seems to loose the beat a bit (or were there some members of the audience getting rowdy ?). The ends comes quick sadly.

The next number is always a great crowd pleaser on this tour and here is no exception. In the jam part Robert blows a mean harp and has a great battle with Jimmy who takes the lead and then goes into a confrontation with Bonham. The return is a bit shaky, but picks up quickly.

Robert seems to forget that 'Immigrant Song' is also on the new LP when introducing 'That's The Way'. After a long tuning period and some stand up comedy (or sit down) from Robert it finally gets underway. 'Bron-Yr-Aur' is heavily cut in the beginning. At this time it must have been a serious contender for the third album.

Then sadly the last song of this tape, again a new number from the forthcoming album. 'Since I've Been Loving You' starts very mellow, even Bonzo holds back a bit. Robert starts immediately with the earpiercing notes. Page' solo is very impressive. Great show, maybe the rest shows up in the future.

Audiences were not always in the mood for acoustic sets. Combined with equipment troubles and a not relaxed Robert Plant results in dropping Bron-Yr-Aur. Robert' voice is again in excellent shape as for the rest of this tour. The 'Whole Lotta Love' medley is a classic.

Comments;
This is the most popular recording from Led Zeppelin. It made it to #1 in Proximity's special bootleg issue and most of the 'hotshots' had this also on the first spot in their lists. It was the first vinyl bootleg of Led Zeppelin.

After the short introduction the Californians are blasted with 'Immigrant Song'.This was the second ever concert at the Inglewood Forum so this show must be the one of the first foundations for the special relationship with this venue. Very good audience recording. 'Heartbreaker' is next and gets a big roar of approval from the girls. Robert is making several remarks about their
looks throughout this concert. They changed from relative innocent looking in March to a kind of invading Vikings this time. The 'Bouree' is not very extended but so well played.

Robert is not very at ease in the beginning because his speech sounds a bit forced and nervous. 'Dazed & Confused' starts very impressive and continues to do so. Jimmy is making the guitar strings almost sing with the violin bow. Robert joins in with some mysterious calls which only the girls seems to decipher. The instrumental part that follows is totally Page dominated. Just before the return to the usual riff Page plays with the feedback he creates. In the coda Jimmy changes very quickly from the low riff like sound to the high soloing parts.

Is Robert referring to Bath with the 250.000 hands part ? 'Bring It On Home' is wunderbar, for this one together with the L.A. 1972 version you can wake me up at night. The guitar/harmonica interlude is so good. Then Jimmy starts a conversation with Bonham which is equally inspiring. A few days earlier some of the acoustic set couldn't be played so Robert is very happy with the results tonight and goes to great lenght explaining about 'Bron-Yr-Aur'. The song itself is over in a flash.

Then 'Since I've Been Loving You', as said by other people this tour was Robert' tour de force. His singing here is unbelievable. Hear those notes and deny he was the best vocalist ever around this time. He starts so mellow and slowly works to a incredible climax. And two days later he still has enough stamina to perform the 'Immigrant Song' screams so loud that the rest of the
band is blown off stage.

In total contrast is the 'Organ Solo'. Sorry to say this, but this is bad. Or does he do this on purpose ? 'Thank You' is very good with a very loose Page soloing his ass off.

Nothing really special occurs untill the start of 'Whole Lotta Love' where the real fun starts. They start very early with the Theramin chaos and everybody is clapping and screaming along. The medley is one of my all time favourites especially the choice of songs combined with Jimmy' riffing and Robert' ability to remember almost every song played in rock/blues history for the past 50 years. 'Some Other Guy' has some interference from the taper who says (if i'm correct) something about the microphone, was Peter Grant showing up ? Classic is the line in 'The Lemon Song' which goes 'get your teeth out before you get into bed' and i hope for the band there were barriers in front of the stage because the girls go really wild now. This is really a classic. Firecrackers
accent the return of the main theme which pisses Robert of greatly.

Encore time starts with 'Communication Breakdown' with a very nice mini medley.
Jones and hiss bass guitar are a joy to hear, especially in the solo after 'Good Times,Bad Times'. Jimmy leads the way into 'For What It's Worth'.

The last two encores are very special. The first and (as far as we know) last performance of 'Out On The Tiles' and 'Blueberry Hill' in which Robert demonstrates his power once again.

Recorded 2 days after the 'Live On Blueberry' concert, the Fairport Convention jam and a drinking contest and still in fabulous form. Especially Robert who gets so into the Viking scream of 'The Immigrant Song' that little else is heard. I must admit that i obtained this show after Luis Rey' comments on this. I'm still wondering how he could perform those screams without even properly hearing himself. Stage equipment was very primitive then, they usually turned a few P.A. speakers in the direction of a band by way of monitors.

What an incredible find !! So it can be done without getting it to Japan first. Hats off to the taper for getting it to Steve who most graciously decided to share it. A very good audience recording from the last show of the second American tour of 1970.

After the introducting, 'Immigrant Song' blasts away, you can hear the sound getting clearer during the song's progress. Some minor microphone handling noises come through. Hear Plant extend the 'Looting' part, he's again the shining star of this show. 'Heartbreaker' follows and the sound is most enjoyable. This is so great, a completly new concert with fabulous sound.

Jimmy gets in his usual country picking style during his solo spot, then the fast parts and to end with the 'Bouree'. Even in the more chaotic passages everything remains perfectly clear.
The Garden is warmed up now and Robert asks them to be a bit quiet. 'Dazed & Confused' is next on the list. Robert hits the high notes straight from the beginning on. He improvises masterfully on the 'sit down' lyrics. Jimmy is not so inspired in the exchange with Bonham before the bow solo.

Robert speaks even to the audience during the bow solo ! Must have been quite a madhouse. The solo itself is great and quite long for this period. Bonzo gets the train going and the fast parts are again very clear. Robert uses his voice as an extra instrument during the improvisation. The return to the main theme is extremely smooth.

'Bring It On Home' follows this spectacular show.
Many of my favourite performances of this song are from this period and this one ranks high. There always that incredible interaction between Robert's harmonica and Bonzo and then between Jimmy and Bonzo. There's a slight conversation between the taper and the girl who ended up on his foot during 'Heartbreaker'.

Was the Garden prepaired for an acoustic interlude ? With the warnings in mind during 'Dazed & Confused' i expected the worst. First there's moving tribute from Robert to Jimi Hendrix. Then 'That's The Way' starts the acoustic set and the audience is extremely well behaved.
The sound is remarkable now, full and rich. Again Robert goes to great lenght to explain the origins of 'Bron-Yr-Aur'. The cottage and it's surroundings sure did make a big impression on Page and Plant.

The organ during 'Since I've Been Loving You' causes minor distortion. Wonderful rendition with a great solo followed by that unhuman 'crying' shriek from Robert, who lets a few more loose as the song slowly builds to a beautiful end. Being honest, the 'Organ Solo' in 1970 isn't my favourite part, it's sounds a bit too much like a joke. This one is acceptable. Suddenly the crowd gets very excited at the beginning of 'Thank You'.

Not much to comment on 'Thank You' and 'What Is And What Should Never Be', good versions in the spirit of this show. 'Moby Dick' follows to great pleasure of the audience. And then the madness begins. 'Whole Lotta Love' begins with Robert again taking the lead. The build up after the Theremin concerto is incredibly heavy. The medley starts with 'Boogie Chillun' and what follows pushes the medley from 04/09/1970 to the second place. Again i wonder if they rehearsed musical orgies like this. 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy' is called for by Robert, so it must all be an improvisation. Almost the complete version is performed.

'Cinnamon Girl' is performed in 'For What It's Worth' style. A long instrumental introduction to 'Some Other Guy'. The musical history lesson continues with 'The Train Kept A Rollin', never performed in medley form. Everybody is invited to go buzzing prior to 'Honey Bee'. With 'The Lemon Song' the best ever medley is over. Robert destroys the microphone with the 'woman' calls in both forceful low and high voice. The audience is completly crazy now.

'Out On The Tiles' continues this almost surreal experience now, the second time ever. No mercy, and straight into 'Communication Breakdown'. There have been some unusal songs squeezed in this song, but 'Gallows Pole' must be the rarest so far. It's not the actual music from 'Gallows Pole', only little hints from Bonzo, but it's so great to hear this. Who could ever dream to hear it in a recording from 1970 ?

The 'Girl Can't Help It' must be the blueprint for 'Rock And Roll'. Who's singing backing vocals ?? Incredible playing again, the perfect coverband. 'How Many More Times' as a last encore ? Well, at this show anything could have happened. Not a short version to finally satisfy the audience, but even with a medley with an almost complete 'Blueberry Hill'.

A most sincere thanks to everybody who was involved in getting this out.
